WHAT WE DO

Whole Home Technology

Lighting, shading, audio-visual and smart home systems for new builds and renovations

Whole Home Integration

We design and deliver fully integrated lighting and smart home systems for luxury homes across Cheshire, Manchester, and the North West. From early-stage new builds to complex renovations, we ensure every element of technology is thoughtfully designed, seamlessly integrated, and simple for the family living there, to use.

While we regularly work on individual rooms and upgrades, our expertise was built delivering complete home integration projects — coordinating lighting, shading, audio-visual, network and control systems across entire properties.

SONA Design & Coordinate - and this is why we're different

These days electricians are totally capable of installing much of the equipment we may specify and use. However here's where SONA are different...

SONA design and coordinate the first-fix infrastructure, ensuring lighting control, shading, security, heating and cooling, water features, motorised velux windows, motorised doors and all home systems are designed to work together — not bolted together by being installed as the project moves along. When we are involved early, we proactively liaise with you to empower you to make decisions, and then liaise with architects, interior designers, electricians and specialist trades to ensure:

  • Cabling and containment are future-proofed

  • Control systems are correctly specified

  • Integration is seamless across the entire property

  • Nothing is left to guesswork onsite

Others can install. We design and integrate as well.

Without this level of planning, elements end up often operate in isolation — lighting doesn’t talk to shading, heating isn’t linked to occupancy, keypads aren't properly programmed to suit the client's sensory preferences, or engraved as per the lighting design, and automation becomes really fragmented (whilst still costing the same).

With proper planing and integration by SONA, the home works as one unified system.

That’s the difference.

Early involvement prevents compromise.

It protects performance.

And it ensures true whole-home automation — not disconnected features.

20 Years of Specialist Experience

Simon began working in home technology over 20 years ago, when integrated lighting and smart home systems were still highly specialist. At that time, these systems were delivered by dedicated experts with deep technical understanding of design, wiring infrastructure, programming, and commissioning.

Today, the market has become far more crowded. Many electricians now offer elements of smart lighting or AV installation, but whole home integration requires a different level of planning, coordination, and expertise.

Our experience allows us to:

  • Design systems correctly from the outset

  • Prevent costly mistakes and limitations

  • Ensure systems remain reliable long-term

  • Deliver seamless integration between lighting, shading, and AV

  • Support the project team from concept to completion

This experience is especially critical in large or complex homes, where early decisions affect the performance of the entire system.

New Build Projects

New builds offer the opportunity to design systems properly from the ground up.

We work alongside architects, interior designers, and electricians to design and specify:

  • Whole-home lighting design and control systems

  • Automated shading and curtain control

  • Distributed audio and video systems

  • Home cinema and media rooms

  • Exterior and landscape lighting integration

  • Centralised control via elegant keypads and apps

By being involved early, we ensure the infrastructure, wiring, and system design fully support the home — avoiding compromises later.

Renovations and Retrofit Projects

We also specialise in integrating modern systems into existing homes, where careful planning is essential.

Our retrofit solutions allow homeowners to upgrade their property with:

  • Smart lighting control

  • Automated blinds and curtains

  • Media rooms and cinema spaces

  • Improved lighting design and ambience

All while working sympathetically within the constraints of the existing building.

Set Up to Support Interior Designers and Homeowners

We understand that technology should enhance, not dominate, the home, which is why we are trusted by many of the North West's Interior Designers who over the years have become trusted partners.

Our systems are designed to be:

  • Invisible where possible

  • Simple and intuitive to use

  • Sympathetic to the interior design

  • Reliable and future-ready

We work closely with interior designers to ensure technology integrates seamlessly into the overall vision, protecting both the design intent and the client experience

We are working with new Interior Designers all the time, but have partnered with many such as Fiona Watkins Design, Lewis Knox, Hunter and Belle, Elite Design, Faye Robinson, Uber, Spacemaker Interiors, Kate Bowl Interiors, Keeley Green, Wilding & Wolfe, Jim Brookman to name a few.

Scalable from Single Rooms to Full Homes

Although we deliver full home integration projects, the same level of care and expertise applies to smaller projects, including:

  • Lighting upgrades

  • Cinema rooms

  • Media walls

  • Automated shading

Many clients begin with a single space and expand over time.

Typical Project Costs

Whole home projects vary significantly depending on size and scope:

  • Lighting control systems: starting from £1500 per room

  • Whole home integration: £25,000 – £90,000+

  • Large luxury homes: £100,000+

We provide clear proposals tailored to each property and client.

Why Experience Matters

Many homeowners don’t really know what they want — or what’s possible — when it comes to whole-home technology. This can leave them feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed, and unsure of who to trust.

With over hundreds of whole-house projects completed, decades of experience, and deep relationships with suppliers, interior designers and many contractors in the industry, we bring clarity and confidence to every project. Our collaborative approach ensures homeowners feel empowered to make informed decisions, while designers and trades can rely on our expertise to deliver systems that work perfectly from day one.

As a family-run business, we care deeply about every project. Our dedicated project management processes mean that every week, every team member knows exactly what’s happening — we don’t just turn up, install some kit, and leave. We manage the project carefully, end-to-end, and provide ongoing support to every home we work on, ensuring systems remain reliable and enjoyable long after installation.

This is what truly sets us apart from electricians: experience, care, collaboration, and long-term support.
