SONA designed and delivered a complete ‘smart home’ solution for this amazing, split level property, featuring a dedicated media room, full lighting control, audio video distribution and control from custom programmed iPads.

Initially introduced to this client through the developer, the brief for this project was distributed music throughout, the ability for each room to access a central satellite receiver and content through Apple TV, and a dedicated media room with television and large screen projection system.

As with all our projects, we designed and implemented a complete cable infrastructure to support the required systems, but also to support future additions and upgrades.  Every low-voltage cable is brought back to a central termination rack where it is terminated for connection to the main equipment.

With the exception of plant and store areas, every room features Lutron lighting control with backlit keypads which can be engraved to the clients requirements.  The lighting system includes the exterior areas and features astronomic and vacation programming so that lighting is automatically selected depending on the sunset time and the house looks occupied when the client is away.

Due to a second floor swimming pool, this property had a reinforced concrete construction so we specified a managed wireless network system to provide high performance Wi-Fi.  A wired network also provides connectivity for all of the TVs and clients other devices.

A Sonos audio system provides music distribution to the master suite, swimming pool, living/kitchen area and the triple height entrance/dining atrium, and as the property has been completely cabled, additional music zones can be added quickly and easily.

The dedicated media room off the main living space features a 55″ LED television and a bespoke motorised projection screen built into custom cabinetry.  This room features Sky+HD, Blu-Ray, AppleTV and motorised black-out blinds which operate automatically with the projection system.
The Sky+HD receiver from this room is also available on all of the televisions throughout the rest of the house.

The nine audio/video zones are all controlled through custom programmed iPads with a bespoke user interface which allows each family member to simply select the source they want to watch in each area and have the integrated control system automatically carry out all of the configuration for them.
